venturing

I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed.

Booker T Washington

i don't know about you, but let me tell you, i have been soooooo busy these past few weeks! and the time is flying by! i only got to go on one photohike but because i took some of the advice in the digital photography book by scott kelby my photos came out so much sharper! i was already working on background, lighting and adjusting my camera settings, so i think the synergy of all these elements is helping me achieve greater results with my photos.

i also started a super class at the community college on how to create a successful business plan. it's been very informative so far and it's nice not to try to achieve this huge undertaking alone. after that i am signed up for two accounting classes in may and june. and beginning may 30th i'm starting kelly rae's brand spankin' new e-course called flying lessons: tips and tricks to help your creative business soar. wow...it's a lot, i admit it! and on top of everything else going on in my life. but i am so totally serious about making my art a successful business now that i am pushing myself hard. but...i am feeling so empowered by it and for whatever reason i can feel it in my gut that this time around it's gonna work out for me! i mean it!! really!!

leaping

Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what's next or how.
The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows.
We guess.

We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark.

shaping up

megan is coming along, i should have her completed by the end of the weekend...i hope! you know how that goes...best laid plans!! i feel like her face is pretty much finish, a few touch ups here and there. but after studying her on this format, i can see that i have a lot of reworking to do on her hair.

so i'll be at my drafting table tonight noodling away!

being powerful

i picked up and dusted off a book i read many years ago called creating true prosperity by one of my favorite authors, shakti gawain. in her chapter on money and power she writes: if we are afraid of our power, we may unconsciously keep ourselves from making much money. i really thought about this and exactly what my definition of being a powerful woman meant to me. i looked at both women i knew and women in the media, looking for common denominators. i have to tell you it totally knocked my socks off to see all the similarities that i believe make a woman powerful to me.
here's my list:

*strong emotionally~knows herself well
*is giving of her time and talent and is very caring

*confident, values herself and her time

*makes good and wise choices for herself and if those choices don't pan out makes a new choice
*influential~knows she has impact
*vulnerable~willing to be visible

*ability to act~not expecting others to do it for her

*a really good person, creating her reality thru dominion.

i am loving this list and what it means to me. realizing that power comes from who we are and not what we have! for real!

what makes you feel powerful?

moments of pleasure

trust and start walking. we are not alone in the dark; our path will unfold as we move.

descanso gardens

hope you had a wonderful weekend...and easter! i had a blast, spending lots of time hiking and photographing this weekend. i am just falling in love with photography more and more! and a really cool thing is happening with josie now. when i stop to take a photograph, she races back (she's always about 20 steps ahead of me) and just hangs with me. it's like she is watching over me as i am totally absorbed and oblivious to what's going on around me while i shoot my photos.

altho i do have to say she did not warn me at all about the gopher snake stretched out across the path as we rounded a corner on the hiking trail on sunday. but luckily is wasn't a rattler like the weekend before! my sister told me snakes are about shedding the past...and it does feel that way to me.

i feel like my life is accelerating at the speed of lightning right now and i have to tell you, it's very thrilling!!
