oddly enough my whole interest in a painting is when i'm painting it. sure i care about it for a while-try to decide if i succeeded in what i was after. but strangely it doesn't make any difference to me whether the pictures are sold or not. really, my purpose in painting is creating a thing.

funny...i felt this drawing was complete on wednesday evening, but something with taking a photo of it and looking at it a few days later, my eye is drawn to various spots i want to go in and fix. is any piece of art ever finished? or will i forever be noodling away at it until i feel fully satisfied?!hmmmm!!! good question!! i'll let you know after i work on it a bit more tonight! ugh!!

I don't think i've ever seen
such photo-like drawings!
what an incredible eye you have,
Jennifer
I read the quote and didn't realize at first that it wasn't you speaking... now I wonder do you feel that way? They do say creating art should be all about process and not so much about product, right? I'm not sure I am there yet. Although I do love the process, I kinda like looking back at the product too. It takes me a while to decide if I like something. Lately I have been creating some mixed media pieces - since they are all unique, I find it a little hard to part with them.
Anyway, this is a fabulously gorgeous and intricate piece!!
Hi Patty!
I just got thru reading Andrew Wyeth's book...so interesting his perspective on this whole subject. To him his art was all about the process but he also produced paintings the public loved (altho critics hated)...he really lucked out and was able to make a very good living with his art! I have always loved his work but found out all the hidden meaning and depth to his art thru this book...so i was fascinated, glued to my seat!
I feel that way with some pieces . . . I swear I could go on reworking them forever, then there are others which seem to tell me their done. It looks gorgeous Kathryn, just perfect to these eyes.
I just love your work, I've had the urge to do a little graphite work lately instead of colored pencil and you just make me want to go back to my "roots" all the more. I love your attention to detail and your elephants are to die for!
